Anna Betty Achneepineskum

​Director of Women and Youth Development, Nishnawbe Aski Nation

Anna Betty Achneepineskum is Anishinaabe-Mushkego from the Marten Falls (Ogoki Post) First Nation in Ontario, Canada. Anna Betty is a former Deputy Grand Chief of Nishnawbe Aski Nation. She has dedicated her career to improving the lives of the people in Nishnawbe Aski Nation. As an elected leader she was passionate about ensuring equitable access to justice and improving the quality of life, community wellness and safety for all NAN citizens, especially women, youth and children. For over 20 years she worked in the justice and legal field in the areas of legal aid and restorative justice, and community development. She has also served on various boards and advisory groups for many years including as the Indigenous Justice Group with the Ministry of Attorney General, and the Board of Directors with the Matawa First Nations Management. Anna Betty currently resides in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, but loves spending time in northern Ontario and in the Nishnawbe Aski Nation communities. She credits her six children and four grandchildren as the inspirations for her lifelong work serving the people of Nishnawbe Aski Nation.
